New Program Directors
Congratulations on your recent appointment as a core program director (PD)! The Association of Anesthesiology Core Program Directors (AACPD) would like to welcome you and share some helpful resources for PDs.
-
We encourage you to attend the Society of Academic Associations of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine (SAAAPM) Annual Meeting in November. At the meeting, you will have a chance to learn what other programs are doing and to network with other PDs. You will also hear updates from the ACGME and ABA.
-
We also recommend that you become an official member of the AACPD. To do this please contact the SAAAPM Office.
-
The AACPD put together a Handbook for new PDs that can be found on AACPD Resources page (you must have a login and password to get to this part of the website). Scroll down until you see the “Program Director Manual.”
-
We recommend that you consider joining the “Anesthesia PDs and APDs” Facebook group. In this private group, many people pose questions or challenges to see how other programs are handling them. To join, search Facebook for “Anesthesia PDs and APDs”. Request to join and make sure to answer all 3 questions.
-
We have a mentoring or buddy system that pairs new PDs with more experienced PDs in their general geographic area (if possible). Your mentor/buddy can remind you when certain tasks need to be done and be available for questions and support. To receive a mentor/buddy, please become an AACPD member and complete the short application.
Sincerely,
AACPD Council
